COIN lessons from history

Penned in 2002, John Nagl’s historical examination of the British and American experiences doing COIN in Malaya and Vietnam respectively illustates how the army as a learning organisation can be successful in doing COIN, while those whose organisational cultures are dysfunctional and that prelude learning in theater at all levels are doomed to failure. An invaluable read and a good companion piece to other COIN texts.
