got 102 minutes?: Pensive shorts offer regional perspectives

Was at Kino the other day, and spotted Michael Vatikiotis’s slim new work, Singapore Ground Zero, which “highlights perceptions of Muslim society and Islam in the wake of the September 11 attacks” in 6 short stories. They made for an interesting read, especially the story about the pathetic lowly Manpower civil servant who goes into a fit of paranoid delusion that ultimately ends in tragedy.  With deft irony, Vatikiotis charts the murky and sometimes contradictory lines between freedom and repression, security and terror.  Definitely food for thought.
